A Basilisk's Feather: Short Story

Here is a short story I wrote. It belongs to a world I created for a novel I won't be writing until after my vampire trilogy and very likely some others as well. I wrote it for a contest, but it turned out too long for the word-limit, so I just posted it here.

Enjoy, and please do tell me what you think (I don't think you can leave comments on pages, so leave it here instead).

  1. I'm all for a good monster fight, and the fight itself had a good amount of detail. The pacing was good and I could definitely tell what was going on.

    1. Great :D
What did you think of the ending? I tried it out on my brother and the impression he got was not what I'd tried to put across.

  2. This is sooooo awesome! I LOVE LOVE LOVE this line: "If I kill a basilisk, it had bloody well better have feathers." And then how you wrapped that into the ending--brilliant! VERY nicely done. Would you mind if I send this to the judges? I'm the one funding the contest and I think this is the perfect word count! ;) Sometimes you can't cut a story short and this is one of those times. :) People make exceptions for good writing.

    1. Thanks!
That was one of my favourite parts too.
And I would be delighted if you sent it to the judges. There was a fee for entering the writing contest, wasn't there?

  3. I paid the fee (because it was my idea and I believe in you ) and entered it. They're doing a lot of the judging this week ;)
